Police are treating a knife attack resulting in one death and 2 others being injured in Melbourne as a terrorist incident.
A car was also set on fire by the attacker with gas cylinders and he was known to police and federal agencies before the incident.
Victoria Police Cheif Commissioner speaking at a press conference said: “What we know so far about the individual…from what we know we are treating this as a terrorism incident.
“He is known to police, mainly in respect to relatives that he has that are persons of interest to us. He is someone who is accordingly known to Victoria Police and the federal intelligence authorities.”
Police shot the attacker, who has since died after he attempted to stab police officers trying to stop him.
