Italy’s leaders back ‘Yellow Vest’ movement in France

The leaders of the anti-establishment Italian government have backed the anti-government ‘Yellow Vest’ movement in Brussels.

Whilst condemning violence seen in some of the protests, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said: “I support honest citizens protesting against a President who governs against his people.”

Meanwhile Five Star Leader and fellow Deputy PM, Luigi Di Maio, has been even more outspoken: “Yellow vests, don’t give up!” he posted online.

He went on to say that: “The 5 Star Movement is ready to give you the support you need.

“Like you, we too strongly condemn those who caused violence during the demonstrations, but we are well aware of the fact that your movement is peaceful.

“We can make some of the functions of our operating system for direct democracy, Rousseau, available to you.”

A key player in the Yellow Vest movement, Eric Drouet, has subsequently indicated that he would be prepared to meet with Di Maio.

France’s Europe Minister Nathalie Loiseau hit back, saying: “The priority for the Italian government is to look after the well-being of the Italian people. I’m not sure what being interested in the yellow vests has to do with the well-being of the Italians.”

With Salvini yesterday aligning with the Polish government, it is clear to see that European politics is changing rapidly. Meanwhile the EU’s supposed saviour, Emmanuel Macron, runs a government with a 75% disapproval rating.
