A court has been told how a psychologist who killed his own mother in a savage hammer attack called her a “Brexit-voting halfwit” whilst in the act. Mr Robert Child who is 37 has already pleaded guilty to murdering his mother Janice.
Child’ mother was found locked in the utility room of her home in Liverpool on the 6th of March this year. It was stated in the trial at Liverpool Crown Court that Child transferred £25,000 into his bank account the day before the killing as well as that he was £32,000 in debt at the time. Child denies killing his mother for financial gain.
Philip Walker, who worked with Mr Child at the University of Liverpool told that Child frequently referred to his mother as “the Brexit-voting halfwit”. Mr Walker, who shared an interest in cryptocurrency with Mr Child stated in court: “He was against Brexit.”
When Mrs Child’s body was discovered she was found with 31 wounds which were believed to have been caused by a hammer as well as another weapon.
When police went to inform Child of his mother’s death he was away from his home address as he was buying a £14,000 Jaguar car. In addition to this PC Nicola Ireland was the officer who arrested Child on suspicion of murder. She has told the court that Child asked her “is this a dream?”.
