Two arrested on suspicion of funding terrorism as investigations continue

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of funding terrorism.

Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command have arrested a 53-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man on suspicion of funding terrorism, contrary to Section 17 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Both were arrested under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act [PACE] on Tuesday, 21 July at approx. 6.25am, at an address in west London. They were taken into custody at a south-London police station.

A police search is ongoing at an address in west London.

This comes as a 31-year-old arrested by the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command on Thursday, 9 July has been released without charge.

Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, supported by East Midlands Counter Terrorism Policing, arrested four males as part of a proactive investigation relating to suspected Islamist-extremist-motivated offences in the UK.

A 27-year-old man [A] was arrested at an address in east London; a 31-year-old [B] and a 17-year-old [C] were arrested at another address in east London; and a 32-year-old man [D] was arrested at an address in Leicestershire.

All four males were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism, under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Officers were previously granted a warrant of further detention for [B], allowing them to detain him until today, Monday, 20 July. He has today been released without charge.

On Thursday, 16 July, [D] was also released without charge and [C] was released without charge on Friday, 17 July.

[A] remains in custody at a south-London police station. Officers last week obtained a warrant of further detention allowing them to detain him until Thursday, 23 July.

The arrests in east London were carried out with the support of armed officers. No shots were fired, although one of the males [A] was bitten on the foot by a police dog during the course of his arrest.

He was subsequently treated for injuries at a hospital.

Officers from East Midlands Counter Terrorism Policing and Leicestershire Police also assisted in the arrest in Leicestershire. No armed officers were present for that arrest.

Officers have completed searches at four addresses in east and south London and two in Leicestershire.
