West Yorkshire Police have arrested 21 men in Bradford following non-recent allegations of child sexual abuse in the city. These arrests were conducted as part of a three-week operation at addresses in Bradford, Shipley and Keighley during a three-week operation.

UNN’s Oliver Down understands that all of the 21 arrested are male and aged between 33 and 41. All of those arrested have been released pending further enquiries after interview. The allegations relate to offences which are reported to have occurred in the district between 2001 and 2009.

Detective Superintendent Sarah Jones has said: “This investigation forms part of West Yorkshire Police’s commitment to the investigation of both current and non-recent sexual offences against children. Tackling child abuse is not something that any one agency can do in isolation though which is why we work closely with local authorities and other organisations and charities to support victims, bring offenders to justice and make our communities safer. We would urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse, whether recent or historic, to report it to the police. Please be assured that you will be listened to, taken seriously and supported by professionals with experience of dealing with these kind of offences”.

Philip Davies who is the Conservative MP for Shipley has offered his support to the policing operation and has said that child sexual abuse was “still a massive issue which has to be tackled”. In addition to this he said “I welcome the police’s continued commitment to bring perpetrators to justice and help to keep children safe. I hope any victims or anyone who has any information about these crimes will come forward to the police to help them keep our communities safe”.
